Just finished 24hrs on elsons carpark end opposite toilet bank, didnt catch a thing, but dont think any one else did, just wondering if I am doing something wrong, I was using pb baits single pop ups tigernut & maple on a 2 inch chods. are there certain spots eg on the edge of the sunken pads, in the margins, in the weed etc that I should be finding or a certain bait that works better then others, this was my 2nd blank on elsons but it wont stop me returning as its a top lake.

elsons is not easy mate!Your bait sounds fine just as long as you have confidence in it.Finding the carp on this lake b4 you set up is a must & they dont show themselfs very much at all.on getting to the lake i would look all over the lake for ANY sings of carp.i feel that chod rigs are for fishing over lightly chody areas & not in thick weed. Some people say that chod rigs are a cast anywhere rig!!!Thats great, but what if you cast into 4foot of weed? The carp must be able to get to your hook bait.lead clip set ups are best suited for fishing in weed with a good 10inch+ hook length.

cheers for the advice mate, yeah love the tiger and maple, top top bait, was using chods as a cast anywhere rig as only fished the car park side of the lake and its weed central apart from the gravel bar running through the middle. i fished a couple of pegs down from the point twards the car park, and I noticed a load of sunken lillies in the edge are these good spots to try? will defo tie some longer hook links as I use 6-7" max, also do you prefer sinkers or pop ups. all the best....bean

the lillys in the margins are always a good spot, for this i wld go for bottom baits. Snowman baits are great for more open weedy water fishing. With a 10mm pop up sitting on top of your bottom bait it allows it to sit nicely on weed, plus with a 10inch+ hook length the lead wont grag it into the weed as it wld with a 6inch lengh. If you get my drift!!

I know what you mean, the swim that I was in earlier had a tree that slopped out into the water, but as it was blowing a gale it was difficult to spot and features at distance apart from the lillies and light weed in the margin, I saw a nice common show himself in the middle of the lake. I dont expect miracles, but elsons sure is a tester. cheers
