Very very interesting all this, hot hot hot stuff. But more to the point, its a learning curve for us all. I just wish i could get some pics up myself of rigs/lead set ups that should'nt be used.
1) With the mcf leadclip(pic needed) there is no tail rubber which makes it VERY easy to drop the lead (and imo thats very important when fishing in & around weed)
2) With the standard leadclip that comes with a tail rubber(pic needed), you only need to push the tail rubber on half way MAX (& wet it first)
3) For me its mcf clips all the way.
4) If i wanted to fish a pop up bait then imo, i would still use mcf leadclips & fish the pop up stiff/hinged style with the last bit like a chod (pic needed).
Like joss said about the fix lead is one of the most IMPORTANT things we all need to know....................NO TACKLE OF ANY SORT SHOULD BE BEHIND THE LEADCLIP, LIKE SHOT/PUTTY OR A SWIVEL!
Ok what about the chod rig then................Loads of people use it, and with this set up tackle is used to help hold the chod rig in place or pin it down or set it in a said place away from the lead and to stop it flying up your mainline..............So we need to make sure the rig it self can pass over the leader with ease...NO SWIVEL OR 'O'RINGS BETWEEN THE RIG & MAINLINE, THIS WOULD BE A DEATH TRAP FOR THE CARP (yet we still find these set ups on the bank and in the carp's mouth). Imo, when we find leaders fixed to the mainline with a swivel/ 'o' ring, it must be because the said person/s dont know there knots 'FACT'

I want one of them T-shirts lol. As for the tail rubber, What i ment was, there is'nt one that holds the lead in place like a standard leadclip does.
I cant do pics, i've had a go many times & i just cant do it. I'll have to get someone round with 2 brain cells (That would be double than mine) & show me how too.

Ooooooops, maybe we should take a look at the running rig aswel for safety! Check list....... 1) Can the lead pass over the leader with ease! 2) Again there should never be a swivel holding the leader & mainline together (DEATH TRAP) 3) If using a 'shocker rig' then can the rubber bead pass over the leader with eaze! imo i would never use a running rig in weed & at this point i'd like someome to ask me why

why are chods for nods?

I agree..... why are chods for nods? I test my chod rigs by holding the hook and giving a little shake..... I ALWAYS end up with just the very short hook link only in my hand...... safer than only dumping the lead but still trailing 15ft of line surely??

imo, Dumping the lead is weed is a big plus.
1) On a take a carp can sometimes wrap you up in weed in sec's......e.g Before you've even hit the run. But on a chod rig if you pva tape it on or fix it on with 2lb bs then the carp is still playable because the lead can come free! Yes! That's one end sorted for safety. As for the other end, then like you said dash, you have that sorted because your rig can pass over the leader if you was to crack off.

The weight of it is what makes it safe!! It's a lot harder to shake the hook link off with no weight on the leadcore, and thus giving it more chance to tangle up around itself or something else..... In my opinion that's an absolute no no!!!
