Right then lads ;D, apart from the margins, does anyone know of any clear spots on elsons? I understand if some of you don't want to give this info away. After all we do have our secrets!! Mine is not telling the wife just how much i do spend on kit lol. I have done some marker work but never found any & i don't always like to crash a 3oz lead about for hours on end, it doesn't go down well with your chosen swim or the lads next door Regards dodge 'tt'

dodge....from my experience of elsons...you wont find any 'clear' spots out in open water. plenty of them along the margins...a walk with a pair of polaroids will help u find them...but be aware that the fish do sometimes shy away from these spots...as everybody fishes them...for obvious reasons
most of the open water areas are covered in silk weed of varying thickness...with thicker pondweed around the marginal slope

Thanks nookie. i think your right about the clear spots in open water, or lack of them!! I also belive what you said about the fish shying away from the clear spots in the margins, but at the same time they know its where they can get free food and must came back for a boillie or two (In warmer weather anyway). Cheers anyway mate. regards dodge 'tt'

its funny...i recently fished a water that was fairly heavilt weeded.....siltly in most parts and on observation...the fish avoided the "clear" areas.......what i did mange to suss out was a 6 inch drop in depth from silt to hard spot....which to me = fish feeding.....with the aid of 3....yes 3 marker floats...2 of mine i always use and 1 of my mates, i managed to figure out the size of the area...baited fairly heavily for the stock in the lake and caught 3 of the lakes biggest residents....

How about instead of using a marker for hours to find a clear spot try using just a light lead to "lead about" with. Take the marker off and use that rod. Cast the lead around the swim and try and feel the lead donk down. If u get a donk and you pull the lead back and it feels clear of weed clip the line up on the reel clip. Then walk the rod out along the bank and place a marker on the ground once you have walked out to the clip. Now you have a marker on the ground to walk your fishing rod out too. Clip this rod up to the same distance and put a rig and boiie on it and it's ready to be cast out to the spot you found with the lead. I just read all this back and it dies sound confusing but sometimes it's easier to find spots doing this instead of using a marker. Markers sometimes don't come up that easily in weed unless you use a suitable boom. Hope this helps a bit. Also don't worry about fishing in the middle too much, there are some good spots near bushes etc in the edge. Good luck and don't give up.
