Whats your favorite hook length, hooks, and rig. Tell us why does it matter, or is it just a confidence thing.
At the moment I'm using mugger hooks and IQ hook lengths I like fluorocarbon because of the visibility factor and as for mugger hooks, value for money a good hook at a good price.

Want to get back to basics this year on Roman.
Do you think leadcore leaders are necesarry, thought about just using safety clip and and just letting the line sink to bottom naturally and use light bobbins. I am eager to learn from you experienced guys and appreciate your views - so hope you dont think i ask silly questions.
Don.

Leaders dont have to be leadcore don . The benifits of a leader or tubing is that when you have one of them lovely fish hooked thin naked line can cut in or lift scales as the fish tries to make a bid for freedom, So personaly i like the korda 24inch safe zone kamo leaders they give best of both worlds they have tungsten collars in it and they are soft , thin ish and have give in them, i like the give as i think it helps stop hook pulls under the rod tip or at the net ... letting line sink naturally an lite bobbins is good . silly questions not at all mate. johno.

Don. i've been using leadcore for yrs now and personally i think they really do help me to catch more fish...BUT...only if they are used and tied up safely and the leads run over you knot...if you dont know how to tie them, use what johno has suggested, but for me...i'll stick to me leadcore on either the helicopter rig or the in line set up Slack lines when fishing in open water, but when fishi against snags, be carefull, you'll give them too much rope to snag you up

Thanks Lads - Good advice - Fish Safety first of course.
Have used leadcore leaders for several years and am trying to think a bit harder about what I am doing as it is easy to use rigs and systems as a habit instead of changing things to suit the situation. Have had a lot of doubles this winter on another water using a flurocarbon leader by Clearwater. It sinks really well on the bottom with the addition of a few putty mouse droppings. Am also going to ensure I use the best system available to drop the lead, so hopefully that will reduce fish losses due to the weed. Good point about slack lines and snags, although not to much of a problem on Roman. When pike fishing on Elsons on Sunday on opposite bank to the point a carp rose about half way out went to the bottom disturbing two areas - this was about 4pm - then did same thing in same spot about 30 minutes later. - should have had a rod set up with a single bait on.
Thanks again - Don

Thanks again - Don Use a short leader to a swivel the ones with a ring on one end tie hook link on the ring then tie a lead on the other end thats connected to the leader with weak line , line snaps , lead gone an you have nothing to snag in weed an carp comes to the top an in the net !!!! well thats how its ment to go !!!!
